Estate Sale

I picked up a few things at an estate sale this past weekend….and my favorite score is this pair of dioramas….I don’t think the photos do them justice. They make my collection of Japanese tatebanko pale in comparison….
Lovingly carved of bone and shells, (I think) I haven’t been able to find much info on these. Shout if you know asian crafts.
If you look closely, one of the little shell flowers has come off the tree…but no worries…these cleverly designed beauties have a slot at the top so I can slide the glass off and do my repairs without hassle. They’ll need their frames spiffied up a bit, but isn’t that ALWAYS the way?

I don’t know anything about these specifically, but my mom has an entire living room suite of furniture like those that she bought in Hawaii, with the inset stones, etc. It’s enormous — glassed in coffee table, end tables and display unit. You can kind of see them in these pics I took of her house:

Anyway, she bought them used for about 1k and was told they were worth closer to 20k.
Score for you and her!
Thanks for sharing that info…gives me confirmation that it was $25 well spent!
I don’t think it is bone and shells. Maybe jade and soapstone? My mother has lots of fruit carved out of stones like that. She calls them her jade fruit. She bought them in Japan, she may be right. The entertainment center cited is unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it, and I’ve seen all sorts of stuff made for the military crowd. Regardless, you got a good deal. You could check on ebay, to see if they have something similar. Ann
