That’s where I’ve been all these weeks.

While it’s a cliché to talk about the weather, it matters here. We’ve had cool evenings with low humidity, and we know that there can only be a few seconds, last gasps if you will, of this Spring-like weather left before Summer rolls in. For the rest of the country, Summer IS outside time, but down here? Unless you’re in a pool or creek to cool off…notsomuch.

The sticky, humid, broiling, bug infested Summers of the South force everyone indoors, since sitting motionless in the shade, or after sundown may still cause profuse sweating. Ah, 95% humidity…I know you’re coming, and I’m not wasting time. Not. One. Single. Moment.

We installed some outdoor string lights, and it has made an enormous difference in our evenings.  We can see to eat without lighting 20 candles and I don’t have to wear a headlamp to take the dog to the bathroom.  It’s the little things….so here’s just a few snaps of where we’ve been spending all our free time.

Cool nights make for good treehouse sleeping……

I’d say we have eaten 70% of our meals outside this past month….and cooking them out there too.

Happy Summer!

I really love all the exterior shots! You have so many different areas for lounging/eating I’d love to see a wide shot one day of how they all fit together. If possible of course. ; )

Is your house black, btw? B/c I think I love it.

I think this is the last weekend for outdoor activities for me before it gets too unbearable. Sigh… let’s enjoy the sun before it tries to burn our faces off.

@MS-It’s actually a dark brown that reads black in certain light.
@Alyssa-there is a lot of weeding, but there’s also a lot of “wild” because there’s just too much to tackle on our own. No one tended the yard for over 30 years so it’s been a lot of work for not that much to show for it!

    Dude, I hate humidity. I.would.die

Lovely yard! Love the mattress/acrylic thing in bunkie!

We have had some warm weather but not enough to live outside yet….my backyard is shady and cool…perfect in the dead summer heat! Well, except for bugs…

You may have covered this before, but do you get those cute little outdoor lights at Target or somewhere similar? Matt is interested in getting some to string across our backyard so just thought I’d ask before I begin the search!

Kathy-I’ve had lots of lots that only lasted a year or two and still had to be put away every winter, so I decided I wanted something permanent this time and we splurged a bit on a commercial grade lights from partylights.com. They can be left up all year round in all weather so less maintenance, but pricier.
