Wired For The 50’s

For those who are drooling over Patricia Urquiola’s 50’s flashback Re-Trouve series…there is a glimmer of hope for your pocket book if you act quickly….Anthropologie’s own version , the Scoubi, is on sale for $150.   Matching tables available in both styles.   $150 v. $750…not too shabby.

Dual Medicine Cabinets

I just happened to see the Costco, yes, Costco, bath series they’ve been touting and while I love the double vanity..the price is on par with any other big box with weeks to wait for delivery.  Their version of the Decolav wall cabinet however seems worth a second look.  I’ve seen the Decolav range in price from $580-$805. The Costco version is $280.  So who knew you could buy a gallon of pancake syrup and and your bathroom cabinet in one place?  Craaaazy…

Costco $280
Decolav $700

Sculptura

Thanks to this post from the gals at Remodelista, I’m intrigued by the latest copycat feature.   I’ve admired them for years …but The Russell Woodard Sculptura Series is getting harder and harder to afford.  That said, the Biscayne Chair is not a lot cheaper than some good vintage sleuthing.  How much did you pay for vintage Sculptura?  I’ve seen them on e-bay recently for about the same price…and far better construction.

Stayin’ Glassy

As always, I acknowledge the sin against art when I feature knock-offs.  Moving on…

For those, like myself, who have always loved the gorgeous Giogali chandelier, your bargain has arrived.  Designed by the Italian architect Angelo Mangiarotti in 1967, it is a timeless classic.  Z Gallerie has taken it upon themselves to create their own version for only $299. No,  these are not handblown Murano glass links…if they were, it wouldn’t cost only $299!   That said,  I saw one in store and it does cast beautiful light through the glass much like the original does.

Terrarium Revival

If you’re like me, you’ve always secretly longed for one of those vintage Tiara Casa Terrariums from the 60’s.  There’s a company called Do Plastic that is selling them on ebay and on their website retroterrariums.com.  They don’t have the light at the top like the vintage ones did , so I’m on the fence.  Priced at $150, I think there should be a light, but that’s just me.  You could always add your own-it’s still a groovy place to start your seeds indoors or have a year round garden. They should encourage customers to send in photos too since styling product photos is not their forte.  Despite my moaning-I still love them.

New Ikea Garden Chair

I am one of those who anxiously awaits the arrival of the summer tab in the departments menu of the Ikea website.  I long to see what new outdoor stuff they have going each year and I’ve picked this year’s fave, not because it’s the best looking, but because it’s got the best durability potential in my opinion.

The Vano, also available in green, is made with the same plastic rattan as some chairs I purchased from Ikea 5 years ago.  I’ve included a picture to show how well the material is holding up.  Froogs can’t just be content with a good price, it has to look good after more than one season.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, my choice is the Brommo. Reminds me of a more user-friendly Jorgen Hovelskov 1957 Harp chair or more closely the Poul Kjærholm 1951 PK 25.  Since I don’t have a covered porch, this is an indoor chair for my climate. I think it would weather quickly, but damn, it looks good for $60.  Foldable too.  If anyone has one of these I’d love to hear how’s it’s holding up.
