Tour-Chapter 1

Posted: September 14th, 2010 | Filed under: House Tour, Our Projects | Tags: , | 11 Comments »

After avoiding it ALL summer, I’ve finally gotten around to devoting some time to the Tour.

Here’s the plan…as I maniacally rearrange update rooms around here, I’ll always keep the most current incarnation…or NOW shots on the Tour.

Now, what I’m curious about is…should I bother with the close-up shots of random vignette-y crap that is so incredibly hit or miss (mostly miss here), or are we just interested in the overall “before and now” sense of things?  Talk to me.

When I get a feel for how it will be most useful, then I’ll start to add some other rooms and maybe add more photos…gotta start somewhere…right?

So, Let’s start the Tour in the Living RoomLink Updated 9/16

I vote for one close up of your favorite thing in each room… be it an object or architectural detail.

I think that vignettes could be good because I’m sure your small stuff is just as cool as your big stuff and it might be nice to see it in more detail, but only if you feel like it. I just laughed out loud at your before living room– who lived here previously? Red/orange couches on kelly green carpet? Hilarious.

Some vignettes balanced with more wide shots. I can’t stand when I can’t see a whole room. Lonny – I am looking at you.

Do more tours. I love tours!

Just don’t turn it into an apartment therapy house tour where they take a picture of the same thing 200 times in different angles, hate that s…!

    Housepet – one favorite thing…that’s a great idea…and hard!!

S@sha – We bought the house from the daughter of the builder so that’s why nothing had been changed since it had been built in 1977. Her parents built it, then she moved in after they died.

Brick and Bri – noted..I will do my best!

    I’m drooling over your couch!

How about big pics of the Overall Room shots and clickable thumbnails of the “vignette-y crap” that link to larger versions if folks want some fixins with their salad? I personally like the vignette-y crap. It’s so easy to overload on smalls that what you keep and choose to display says so much more than the big pieces. A cool couch is a cool couch (you have a cool couch…I think that’s what I’m saying here) but it just says, “my owner has great taste in funky furniture”, but a vignette of say collectible vintage flip clocks says, “Look how funky my taste in time keepers is and…uhm…I like to be on time.” Or something like that. I’m rambling and probably not helping.

I say do it like a baseball game: some overall pics of the field, then zoom in on the playas.

Your tour looks great, btw. I tried to leave a comment on that page, but it didn’t work… could just be my fritzy computer, though.

I just took your mini tour and it may be surprising to you that I LOVE your house. Everything looks great and I’m especially in love with your kitchen. You’ve done a great job on it!
