It seems like it’s been awhile since the big shelter blogs featured something truly frugal yet fabulous in depth…today is the day! Morgan Satterfield’s place made me feel right at home….most items in her place cost under $100…..girl after my own heart! Maybe she’s my sistah from another mistah.
She even has an Etsy shop where she cycles out when she rearranges or overbuys. We have the same taste in tchotchke as I saw a few familiar items…so I’m off to start shopping before you get there…
I MUST share this post which can only be described as bizarre, hilarious, and in my particular case…..a wee bit thrilling. If you don’t know why, and are concerned for my sanity…go here. Those Badder Homes and Gardens gals have me on the floor laughing again.
I have to add a new category to accompany my Avian Obsession…Fawn Love. Our first spring in the new house has brought us a special friend….a fawn. We are captivated and thrilled every time we see it….the first day it crossed through the yard it looked like it could barely walk!
Coming from the postage stamp sized yard in the city to the wildlife magnet has been a big shift with a few challenges….but the good outweighs the bad by miles. Seeing this fawn every few days makes me forget all about tree rats eating my house and the foundation destabilizing rodent problems.
Love!

Since we’ll be waiting another 2 weeks for the correct siding to arrive, we figured we now had the time to address that which lives under the deck. I’m talking about Phil, (or Phillipa), the groundhog who has burrowed under the foundation of our house. See, it wouldn’t be enough to have JUST a squirrel problem. This house had been hosting a woodland menagerie of critters before we arrived to take it back. Chipmunks and Rat Snakes are also part of what we lovingly call home. Call me Snow freaking White.
Back to Phil/lipa…the main entry and exit seems to be from under the deck and there was no way of filling up the lair without pulling off the whole deck. The decks have to come off when the siding goes on anyway, sooooo….now’s the time. Rather than wait for the crew to do it, we decided to get started to get a better look….strangely the hole seems undisturbed, but it’s been spotted looking leaner than in the fall, so definitely still in residence. Our fear is sealing it in…so we’ll fill this hole with concrete and then wait a few days before we fill the other one at the front of the house. We tried trapping it in vain this fall… completely ignored all lures and temptations. Taking away the burrow seems to be the only way. Sorry Phil/lipa, you’ll have to build new crib somewhere else.
There’s still a bit of tweaking to be done since HALF of my photographs didn’t make the move…but I’m happy to report that I got a new camera so maybe I’ll be able to upgrade some photos on a few old posts as I clean things up.
First on the agenda is a HUGE shout out to my friend Wayne for guiding me through the jungle that was not one click simple by any stretch of the imagination. He knows the net and has some great info for bloggers and developers at his site waynehastings.net. Check him out as a resource. Thanks Wayne!
Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be experimenting with upgrading the blog and I’ve never done this so expect problems. Just sayin. Eventually, after jags of swearing and tears..I’ll be back new and improved…but in the meantime…don’t say I didn’t warn ya. Wish me luck as I already need every ounce of it.
