Eh.

With the chill in the air, I can’t help but get into nesting mode.  Even though the landscaping is due to start Monday (yay!) I’m looking forward to a cozy fall in front of the fire at the Regal Beagle.

I haven’t shown a whole lot inside yet because, it’s just not there.  That said…it’s ALWAYS a work in progress with me so it’s never really ever going to be there.  I kinda suck at vignettes, so I rearrange them constantly.  I’m still sorting out which furniture really works in this house and what needs to go.  I still have boxes in closets, not nearly enough bookshelves and an endless list of things to get done, but that’s just the way it is.

The lack of multiple bookshelves in the house is causing major overcrowding since I have to have access to my books.  You would die at how jammed and crammed those cabinets below are with books.  In due time.

Since I know someone will ask, the painting over the fireplace is by Laurie Nye.  It makes me happy every time I look at it and I think it’s what saves the room for me when I get in a rut with it.

My blinding princess chair isn’t working in that corner, but aside from moving it to another room..I’m feeling stuck.  The Flototto pieces flanking the fireplace are destined to replace the buffet in the dining room so I can’t get too used to them there.  I think the room would look great with a retro sectional, but that’s not in the budget at the mo, so my couches are fine, and luckily, comfortable for now.

The chaos that will be the next few weeks with bobcats and concrete trucks will have me focused back outside, but I do enjoy a little pre-season nesting and dreaming.

Platner Poser

I just can’t help it….I look at a Warren Platner inspired trashcan from Chiasso and there it is – Hey!  Make it a table!  Is nothing sacred?  Apparently not.

Glass is cheap….get a piece cut and there’s your bargain.  There is one caveat…it would be a far more stable surface if you flipped the can upside down.  That said, I’d actually prefer it that way with a top of onyx or other natural stone.  For such a small area, you could get a remnant or scrap piece for probably $25 or less.

Big style, small price, and customized to your taste.

Bushwacking

Yes, it’s only in our own yard…but the amount of neglected and untamed vegetation makes us feel like it might as well be the jungle.  Poison Ivy vines as thick as your wrist were the first to get the machete…and with each successive pass through…more and more clearing out to make our first “nature trail”.  It winds from the driveway through the woods up to the back of the house.  It also allows us to access the side of the house that currently can only be reached by what I call “the steps of death”.

We had to have a few more dead trees taken down, and instead of hauling off the chips, we had them dump them so we could use them to floor our new path.  It’s free for them to leave the chips, and they even said they’d bring us more anytime we wanted for no additional cost – nice.  We’ve made pretty good progress all in all.  If it ever stops raining, we might even get it finished.
