Lottery Picks: Garden Variety

Since I’m obviously pining for spring a bit…

$3500 via V and M

I see this faux bois as my little Snow White set….nestled in the woods in a small clearing with fawns at my feet and birds singing above me…..THINK AGAIN FOOL.

$1500 via 1st Dibs

Just love ’em and hate their price.

$2875 for these nice and groovy NOT Bertoias.

ANOTHER lovely Snow White set… hey, for $11,000, it should rake the leaves of the whole damn forest for me as well…..

Vladamir Kagan Set for $4500 at PS Modern Way….UGH!!!  Oops…I drooled a bit on my keyboard…

Concrete “Drift” bench from Unica…only $17, 265!

Stone lamps FINALLY went on sale…but to $408 each from $611….sigh….

Last, but not least..my latest design obsession… vintage Van Keppel and Green/VKG Chaises.  “Doublewides” as they call them…which is hilarious given the trailer connotation around here.  I’ll live in THIS doublewide any day thank you.

sigh…$1800 for the pair or $9 hundo each…so LOVE these.

For those new to ModFruGal, I’ll post the lottery picks disclaimer…when I win the lottery, I will spend my new wealth on these shallow and meaningless objects only when the aged parents, charitable causes and purchase of an overseas home have all been attended to…c’mon..I’m not a COMPLETE monster.

Switcheroo

I think I’m finally over hatin’ on my living room. For now anyway.

As much as I wish I could say that Erin’s fab post on sectionals at Design Crisis made me go out and take care of business, this little surprise was already in the works.  Remember my longing and dreaming for a groovy serpentine sectional here and here?  Well, I can’t afford those.

I managed to find a 10 seater on E-bay for $480!  I took the money I made from selling the old buffet and actually managed to find something in the budget..I was as surprised as you are…probably more. It may not be De Sede, but it’ll do pig.  It would be nice to reupholster, but that would be about $2k I’m sure, plus, the reason I bought it was because I don’t HAVE to right now. Project 2015 maybe.

The room feels much bigger now, despite this behemoth taking up the whole space.  The Things LOVE it.

I switched out coffee tables to put our lucite and zebrawood table in here and traded the Wassilys for the Barcelonas in the bedroom.  So far (10 hours) I’m digging it.  As for the other sofas?  Thing One has the orange one, and Thing Two got the green one, so both have very grown-up sitting areas in their bedrooms now.

I think I’ll switch up some of the art and wall decor…maybe move SO somewhere else…You know how Decor-ADHD and non-committal I am, so tomorrow, it will be different I’m sure.

Whoa, Wilma!

I don’t talk fashion here…but these made my heart flutter, so…too bad.  Those who know me, also know I have a thing for big, chunky jewelry that I refer to as my “Wilma Flintstone fetish”.  Combine that with an attraction to sea urchins and there you have it, my ultimate ring.

and check these….all by Vancouver artist My Little Eye.  Prices range between $80-$110.  Found via Poppytalk

Love.

Avian Obsession: Peacock Edition

I love seeing the resurgence of the peacock motif in design…all those wallpapers and fabrics all over the blogosphere? Exquisite.

I have a soft spot for these squawking birdies…I lived with a flock for a few months in my youth…so beautiful…but freakin’ noisy. My picks below are a mix of vintage and new, but it just goes to show, these little guys never really go out of style.

$18 by DeKanimal on Etsy – reminds me of a cross between the Partridge Family and the old NBC logo.

$69 by Mermaidsdream on Etsy

$65 from Fabulousmess on Etsy

Abraham Palatnik Peacock on Ebay….I REALLY want this…it will go for big bucks though.

$24 poster by Rabi Khan on All Posters

$5 by Michelle Brusegaard on Etsy

$40 by Giardino on Etsy

Imagine waking up to this sound 3 feet from your head….with a hangover…

Friday Flea

So, I tried a new strategy this month and decided the hit the flea market Friday morning instead of Saturday morning.  Supposedly, they set up Thursday night, but since the weather was cold and wet, a lot of vendors were not set up yet or were in the process of unloading.  I didn’t bring my camera so it wouldn’t get wet in the drizzle.

I picked up another project from one of the dudes ready to deal.  Why is it I NEVER find anything that doesn’t need work?  Sigh.  Anyway… stopped off at the hardware store on the way home and got busy.

I have to research chroming/chrome plating…that would be valuable info for me and the stuff I’ve got.  Body shops?

I got a lot of the crud off, but some of the rust is there to stay…but, I’m OK with that for now..the pleather was in great shape…onward!  Have a great weekend..

UPDATE: I’ve conducted a poll of friends and the Interwebs:  Coca Cola and tin foil is the choice of many for those pesky rust spots…will try in morning and let you know…

New Source for Acapulco Chairs

When those photos of The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, and the Thunderbird in Marfa were making the rounds many moons ago, I never stopped obsessing about those patio chairs.  The fact that I could only find ONE retailer in the whole US seemed ludicrous.  Somehow, after a silly amount research, I found this Canadian import company, Innit, who was a new wholesaler of the chairs, as well as a couple of other similar designs.  We e-mailed back and forth about shipping, customs etc..as I hoping I could get them wholesale…they are NOT cheap.  There was a minimum purchase I couldn’t handle, so I filed it away for the lottery win.

I got an e-mail from them yesterday saying that they have secured some retailers in the US and would sell retail to the public direct. Sadly, $400 each is still a bit steep for me right now, but it was good info to share for those with the means.  Lots of colors to choose from, with a choice of black or chrome bases….I REALLY want the red with the black base, but if I can’t have them…maybe you can!  More info with pricing and retailers here.
