Switcheroo

I decided to spiffy up the living room by rearranging some art and FINALLY reorganizing those annoying bookshelves.  Better, I think.  Still room for improvement, but in case you haven’t figured it out by now…nothing is ever finished, it’s always a work in progress…and anything can change, at any time.

I brought my Chinese Pug painting by Paul Edelstein in from the bedroom and I think I like it there.

As for the shelves, I moved out all the classic literature paperbacks, which was a significant chunk! Now they are in an upstairs closet ready for The Minors first English Lit class.  The rest of the books are still filling up the bottom cabinets, but neatly stacked now.  Need. More. Shelves.

Going through all the books got my spring fever kickin’…I don’t think I’ve mentioned my love for all things Sir Terence Conran and Diarmuid Gavin… I possibly have all their gardening books…it’s a sickness.  I can’t WAIT to get the landscaping finished.

Below is a perfect example of why I never have enough bookshelves.  I picked this up at an estate sale for $1.00, who wouldn’t?

Look at it…a nice condition, hardback biography of Zelda Fitzgerald, not to mention a fab cover.  How could you NOT want to read that?  Have I?  Well, not yet…but I WILL.  I have lots of these….sigh.

We spent Valen-New Year hanging out in front of the fire in here…eating spicy pork pot-stickers for lunch and Gorgonzola fondue for dinner.  Don’t ya love days like that?

Diving Belle

I just got my print in the mail from Star Foreman on Etsy and I’m trying to think of how I want to frame it.  It’s likely going above my desk in the bedroom, or above the new arrangement in the dining room.

I might dig in the attic and see if I can re-purpose an old frame to save some dough.  Framing is crazy expensive and I haven’t found the right size or style in the cheap, readymade variety.  Michael’s usually has all I need for quick, cheap framing, but it’s a metallic print and I want to do it justice with something unusual.  My sled fatigue has me stuck on what would look right for her…matting..no matting?  Yellow frame or frameless glass?  I’m all over the shop on this one.

Fawn Love Friday

…..and Happy New Year!  Nothing like a little fawn love to start off 2010.  I swoon over these photos by the late, great Bob Willoughby of Audrey Hepburn with her fawn Pippin, or Ip.  Then husband, Mel Ferrer, gave her the fawn from their Green Mansions set following her 2nd miscarriage.

All photos by Bob Willoughby… his Flickr feed is here…via one of my fave blogs…The Jealous Curator.

Avian Obsession

While both my fawn love and avian obsession have been mentioned before..I’ve also long loved maps and atlases.  One of our favorite wedding presents was a big, new National Geographic atlas.  I can still sit with it for days on end.

My point is… British artist, Claire Brewster, has managed to combine two of my favorite things...although not for sale. I might have to steal this idea for some bird silhouettes of my own.  Handcut from atlas pages…she creates beautiful, intricate creatures and objects.  You go girl.

Entry

Before I pack up my summer vignette to make way for ravens and spider webs, I figured I should document a little before and after.

It’s easy to forget how it was until you go through the old photos…after all, that’s why I started this thing… so for once, we can have proof of how much we did when it all goes fuzzy.

I hate storm doors as a rule, but with no overhang, there isn’t really a choice.  Building a small overhang could work, but we don’t want it to distract from the architecture. Until we get that figured out,  I’m stuck on any other ways to get rid of the door without creating a massive moisture problem.

Her console was actually pretty great up close.

The painting is by Bob Burdette.  The buffet I found down in Franklin for $300…they HATE deco and mid century down there so it’s all good for me.
