Bullish

Because I’m biased and I think most everything Jonathan Adler does is fab…. (BTW-WHY did they cut out his  “See you later Decorator!”  send-off in season 2 of Top Design?!  It was so perfectly campy/bitchy…I longed for it.) I digress…

As groovy as his bull bookends are, the smooth simplicity of the new bull place card holder is a nice diversion..plus it makes me laugh.  Not only because his website features the series of animal card holders with names of Brangelina’s spawn, but it also reminds me of one of my favorite childhood books…The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf.  I envision a table of Ferdinands refusing to fight the matador in Madrid while they smell the flowers of your centerpiece.  Yeah, I know…what’s she smokin’?  No matter… it’s still cool.

Froogs Rejoice

It seems like it’s been awhile since the big shelter blogs featured something truly frugal yet fabulous in depth…today is the day!  Morgan Satterfield’s place made me feel right at home….most items in her place cost under $100…..girl after my own heart!  Maybe she’s my sistah from another mistah.

She even has an Etsy shop where she cycles out when she rearranges or overbuys.  We have the same taste in tchotchke as I saw a few familiar items…so I’m off to start shopping before you get there…

Avian Obsession 4

I’ve been lonely for my birds since the scavenging raccoons made off with ALL 3 of my bird feeders in the night a few weeks back.  This will have to do.  I’m thinking the raccoons will have difficulty following the eightfold path….

Whip Out Your Tax ID

I’ve long wanted to post some items from Worlds Away, but didn’t because they sell to the trade only….but who says you don’t have a tax ID?  What the hell do I know?  Anyway, they are launching their new designs for the season and have just posted them here. Designer Lauri Jones has been introducing more MCM inspired pieces over the past few years and I, for one, am a fan.  Here’s my 2 picks as personal faves of the season.

$799 Wholesale
The Crosby - $799 Wholesale
$195 Wholesale
The Mondo - $195 Wholesale

If you are in the Memphis, TN area, you HAVE to go to their outlet…it’s a daunting, obscenely cluttered place…but it’s well worth the dig if you have the patience to see past 8 foot high shelves of casserole dishes. It’s open to the public (no tax ID required) and you can often score items with minor imperfections for less than the wholesale price.

Fawn Love

I have to add a new category to accompany my Avian Obsession…Fawn Love.  Our first spring in the new house has brought us a special friend….a fawn.  We are captivated and thrilled every time we see it….the first day it crossed through the yard it looked like it could barely walk!

Coming from the postage stamp sized yard in the city to the wildlife magnet has been a big shift with a few challenges….but the good outweighs the bad by miles.  Seeing this fawn every few days makes me forget all about tree rats eating my house and the foundation destabilizing rodent problems.

Life in the Dollhouse

While perusing this post at Design Milk, (via this post at Inhabitots), I started to realize how incredibly unfair it was to parents that modern dollhouses are so ridiculously expensive.  The Modularean House featured on these posts isn’t even available to the public…so even if you’ve got the dough…no go.  The closest thing I found to the “not available” dollhouse was the “Villa Sibi“…for a mere $850.  Puh-leeze!

I’m obviously a design for the masses kinda gal, and this is a perfect example of modern design elitism that drives me nuts….and makes me determined to search for something similar for budding modernists without the Gucci pricetag.

Sadly, I came up with only a few well priced ones….at the bottom of the page…but I came to the conclusion that some of these designs are simple in form and would make an unbelievable DIY.  I’d like to make my own Farnsworth inspired house…just for me!  If this lady on AT can do it…why can’t we?  SHE has mini Jean Prouve chairs….wow.

Plan Toys and HaPe have come through the most.  They have some cute and creative options..(love the solar panels on the green house).  The Small Paul Julius is great simply because it’s not a unitasker…it’s also a stool!  I think the idea is catching on…but, as you can see from the pricing of the top ones…we’re not quite there yet.
