Just Listen to the Bubbas

Now if all those finger pointers at British Petroleum would listen to these guys, then we might get somewhere.

The most amazing thing about this video is that my mother sent it to me….I don’t know who hijacked her computer enabling the complex maneuver of forwarding a video, but I guess I’d better call and make sure she’s OK.

I’m in.  Human/Animal hair works as well and Matter of Trust has been trying to get the word out on that as well.

Birdbrain

Now that this is our second Spring in the house, we are anticipating certain harbingers of the season, such as fawns and owls.  However, one event we were HOPING was an isolated incident last year, is apparently an annual ritual.  I’m referring to the antics of one Summer Tanager.

Beautiful Bird…no?

Alas, not a quick learner.

He’s baaaack.  This handsome boy has some drive, I tell ya….starting at about 5:30 in the morning, and continuing ALL DAY until dark, he flies from window to window pecking the glass….OVER AND OVER.

Last year, I was quite worried he’d kill himself from a combination of impact and exhaustion.  I’d read somewhere that certain tricks like taping pictures of owls in the windows would deter them.  So I did that, I sprayed the glass with water, I tried several things…nothing stopped him except the workmen putting up the new siding.  Too many people I guess, he was gone.  This year, we just grind our teeth and mutter from our sleepy beds…Go away you STUPID bird…..not again…

I tried to save him from himself, but as long as he thinks his own reflection is the competition for that sexy chick in the forest…it will never end. I’ve tried talking to her out in the yard, and I TOLD her, if she’d just do it with him and make a nest then maybe we’d all get some sleep.  She hasn’t listened.  With no workmen on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how long this lasts….

Estate Sale

For some reason…time has moved in slow motion for me this week.

Why? What did I do? I dragged some furniture downtown to donate, volunteered at the Minors’ school, had to COMPLETELY rebuild the shop for flood relief (love/hate Cafe Press)… It seems like weeks ago I was ripping out moldy drywall and cleaning out furry, fermented Jamaican food down at the farmer’s market, but it was only Tuesday!  (BTW, I have never wanted a silkwood shower more than I did that afternoon…Supposedly, only 2 more weeks of water restrictions though – Hell YEAH!)

When working at the school yesterday, the music teacher told me he just got power back the day before…damn..everywhere you turn, someone lost their house or a whole floor of it…I have major survivor’s guilt.

So… to completely contradict my SG, I went junkin’.  (2nd hand version of retail therapy? Have I screwed with my karma?!) I’d neglected my booth lately and decided to hit an estate sale to find some fresh items.  Problem is, I think I’m keeping them…karma SO screwed now…

I’m fascinated by this piece.  It’s a mosaic of paper…you can see below where a few pieces have come off that I’ll have to fix.

I can’t be sure, but the signature looks like Karl Windhurst, or Windhunt…

But I’ve turned up no info via interwebs.  Probably just a talented friend…

And last, but not least…I found a baby for my cardinal…..

*Sigh*

Fresh!

We got our first share from our CSA Avalon Acres today, and I’ve been giddy like schoolgirl in anticipation all week.  We were supposed to start getting shares last week…but, well, we all know what happened there.

I was shocked we got our eggs since they lost over 1200 of their 1600 chickens in the flood.  They’ve done an amazing job of getting back to business very quickly, and as good fortunes go, their crops all survived – Yay!

So what’s in my little box of goodness you ask?  TWO nice punnets of strawberries (Thing 2’s fave), spinach, lettuce, baby bok choy, scallions, broccoli, a half dozen fresh eggs and a sprig of mint.  Can’t WAIT for next week.  The freshness and tenderness of everything we’ve eaten so far is SO fan-tabulous!

Here…let me show you the farm strawberry next to the one from Publix…..

I don’t need to tell you which is which.

Yes….it DOES taste as good as it looks, and YES,  it’s so much better.  I will cry when it’s over…..

We Are Nashville

Apologies to my non-local readers…

Ty Mattson of Mattson Creative has open sourced his design for Nashville flood relief, and since no one else seemed to be using the design…I opened a Cafe Press Shop with 100% of proceeds going to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.  I’ll keep updates and everything local on my Twitter as usual.  It is WAY too cool a design not to be produced.  The We Are Nashville site has another t-shirt design as well.  Viva Nashvegas!

To get this design on everything from a thong to a onesie…go here.  It’s for a good cause!

UPDATE 5.12:  Lift Up Nashville is Now selling the poster of this design among others…Yay!
