CC Strikes Again

It’s the CC’s turn to wow you!

Every year, my Crafty Counterpart makes an ornament for the Things….(He shared a couple of his most popular designs here.) ..but he was stumped this year.  What to make?!

I showed him this post by superfabcrafters Derek and Lauren from The Curiosity Shoppe and Smarts and Crafts and suggested that we use some of the leftover veneer we had.  His eyes lit up and I knew he was ON IT.

Next thing I know, he’s calling me to bring the camera and start my clicking.  He knocked these out in a couple of hours.

We don’t have a drill press, so he used a leather punch for the holes.  We had some white oak and zebrawood.  He double sided the center piece, but left all the others as is.

Lined them up and sewed them up.

As you can see, one of the ornaments’ veneer gave under the pressure…no problem.  Just makes a different shape, and now we can tell them apart.

Take a bow babe….

More details will be posted later in the week on his Instructables page, but in the meantime, he can answer questions here in the comments.

Snow Day..Yay and Yikes

Given that we are in the home stretch of school before the Holidays, our time is pretty tightly scheduled.  The good news/bad news?  Today is a snow day for the kids!

Yay! We slept in, and I got to savor, not slug, my coffee in bed with the laptop today.

Yikes! Today was the day I was supposed to: (insert list of 7 things, 4 of which require the absence of children.)

As I sipped my coffee under Holiday Bucky, I realized that I will have to leave my serene spot to take care of business..boo!

Serves me right for procrastinating.  What would be really funny maddening is if I leave all this behind to gather the items for a school event tomorrow…only to have school canceled again.  I would be stuck with perishables for 200.  Shall we wager which way it will go?  My money is on the sucky scenario ALL THE WAY.

Holiday Haka

For the CC.

While researching a project for Thing One’s school, I found this little vid online.  Most of my readers are American, so it’s entirely possible that very few of you will find this funny.

If you wonder what the hell that was all about…then watch this for the history and this for the modern context.   All-Blacks fans and Kiwi readers…you’re welcome.  Consider that a little run up to the Rugby World Cup 2011….we’ll be watching!

Liar, Liar, Pants Flambé

I NEVER decorate before December.  Ever.

The relentless begging of small children can wear you down and force you to abandon all the principles you hold dear.  They can make a liar out of you if they’re skilled enough.  Mine are skilled.

So, I caved on ONE. Just one singular festive display to keep them appeased.  The holiday hounds are nipping at my heels, but this seemed to fend them off until the weekend.

UPDATE: It was cloudy when I took those pics..the sun came out today, and now I have a disco kitchen!

Instant Guitar

Just when we thought we had Halloween behind us, Thing Two’s school goes and has an 80’s family night…ARGHHH!!!  I don’t wanna dress up…again.  Seriously?  OK, stop being a selfish beeyotch and get with the program.

Our plans for my Crafty Counterpart to swashbuckle his way as Adam Ant circa Stand and Deliver phase fell through, much to our absolute devastation.  He would have really rocked it, and I’ve been singing Desperate but Not Serious ALL WEEK.  Still singing it. Right now.

Given we had 1 day left to figure it out, we went the easy route…CC is to be Robert Palmer, with me as one of the mannequin swayers with guitars. We’ve settled, but we’ll do our best with it.

I’m at a meeting for 3 hours last night, and when I come home, the CC has already McGyvered a guitar for me…white duct tape strap and all.  Cardboard and super thin melamine board…I’m amazed.

Alright, we’re ready.  Here we go…

Have a great weekend..I hope to be back to a more regular schedule next week!
