Estate Sale

I found two/three things at an estate sale today.  One I’m super excited about, the other, I hope someone else will be excited about.  Both need lots of work though.  Can you guess which is which?

OK, so the chandy is not my style at all, but I bought it for the booth.  It’s more in line with the mainstream market here.  It’s thick with dust and I wasn’t planning to paint it, but on closer inspection, I am considering it.

Can we get to the good part now?  The CHAIRS!  Yipee!

These 70’s lovelies were sitting on the front porch of a Victorian house looking so lonely and out of place.  Come to mama.

The chrome is needing love, and they must be recovered, but I can do both myself, so that’s just time.

I stopped and bought some Coke Zero under the guise of chair cleaning.  I’ve been trying to stop drinking those damn things for years now.  THEY REMOVE RUST after all! I make it a few weeks, then I fall off the wagon.

My attraction to chrome furniture and accessories that need rehabbing is enabling my addiction to diet soda.  This is not good for me, but it’s great for the house.  “Did you hear about that lady who lives on the hill?  She crumbled from phosphoric acid leaching all the calcium out of her bones, so she just became a shmooo…but her house looks great.  Really shiny furniture.”

Oh, and the flea is this weekend and I feel like I haven’t been in for. ever.  Chrome anyone?

Flea Market Friday + Estate Sale

So I didn’t take the camera with me to the Flea because:

1) It was freezing, which requires gloves off for shooting pics.

2) I’m supposed to be on a break.

3) I’m lazy.

I bought some fun things for the booth, and for the house, and some things that will begin their limbo test drive phase.  You know, you bring it home and start to reconsider selling it, so you leave it in the house for a few weeks as a trial run.  If it makes you smile when you walk past it..it stays.  Well, until something better comes along…

Love these, but don’t need these…

I think after I pop the paint by number out and redo the frame..I will not want to let it go…another for the limbo set…

Keeping this box as a super stylish pencil holder for my desk….

The lacquer set was still wrapped in plastic and never even used….methinks this will add a little pan-asian panache to Dim Sunday.

All the Asian stuff came from this crazy estate sale.  Packed to the ceiling with goodies from Japan and Germany, where they lived for 30 years.  I’ve never seen so much lacquer and spingerle molds in one place- such a contrast of cultures.  I could have nosed around there all day.

Hiding in Plain Sight

I’ve started posting photos every other week for the Downtown Antique Mall’s Facebook page.  This is the latest offering…..again, not the best shots, we were rushing a bit today.

Shiny kick-ass boots…gimme.

I may not be a poodle fan, but these are quite something…..plus the pigs in the purse..HA!!!!

Ugh, I have a touch of coulrophobia,  but these things sure get other people excited….*shudder*

This Italian lamp is sooooo beautiful….

Hiding in Plain Sight

I’ve started to take and post photos for the Downtown Antique Mall’s facebook page so that on snowy days like these, peeps can browse online.  In order to be fair, and represent every dealer, I took a picture of at least one thing in every space.  I didn’t have the tripod, and it was a cloudy day, so not the best quality pics…but we’ll work on that for the next round.

This was an interesting exercise….the cupid and doily booth I would normally breeze past without a second glance HAD to present something redeeming to me.  I really enjoyed looking for something of interest in places I had previously ignored.   I was also able to showcase things I’ve always admired and think someone should have bought months ago!

Like this….I love this chair and don’t know why it’s still there…

Those birds…and everything around it…this space is a goldmine…

You know I love the pottery….

Babs!  Her following is insane, so she won’t last…

This is a needlepoint by number kinda thing…love it!

Since I’ll be doing this on a regular basis, let’s make it a new feature and I’ll share some faves with you here.  To see all 78 pics, go to the mall’s FB photo album here.

Memba When…

…I brought these unloved tables home?  Then I did the lazy lacquer thing?

My gal Lauri Jones, who is the designer for Worlds Away, decided they would complement her 2011 line pretty well.  So guess what?

Behold the Wangright..in lots of lovely lacquer finishes…..

It’s kinda like the gal from the trailer park makes it big by getting her own Barbie doll.  That table does not have to sleep in her car anymore!  She’s going Hollywood..or actually New York Gift show, but whatevs.  You saw her here, before stardom…with no makeup.  I love a good Horatio Alger story.

Chairaholic

Yes.  That would be me.  My FB and Twitter followers knew this was coming.  I got an early present.

Are those the same chairs I moaned and pined for here?  Because I live in a smallish town, and there can’t be THAT many people with these hanging around…They are the very ones I saw at my mall that were not for sale.  Turns out, I met the awesome owner of these beauties who runs the vintage clothing section of the mall, and she’s downsizing. They are IKEA from 1986 designed by Niels Gammelgaard. Apparently he also did some moonlighting over at Fritz Hansen, Cappelini…NBD.

Now wait, you say…do you NEED any more chairs?

Why, that would be NO.

Where will you put them?

I don’t know, but I think they’d be great in front of the fireplace…take up less visual space, and if I powdercoat them white….(you roll eyes and stop listening)

So why buy them, you don’t need them and you don’t have a place for them?

This is where sensible people say..”you’re right.” and walk away.   NOT ME.

Because….look at them!  They are fabulous!  So much cooler than Bertoias, and I NEVER see them, and….and, I’m a chairaholic and I need help…but AFTER I buy these…K?

You walk away in disgust…rightly so.

I start singing.
